The South African Air Force has begun receiving an upgraded avionics package for part of its Gripen fleet, in a programme intended to extend the operational relevance of the type within the service.
The upgrade covers cockpit display systems and mission computing, bringing the aircraft closer to the configuration flown by other operators of the type.
Work is being carried out in phases so that a portion of the fleet remains available for operational tasking throughout the programme.
Further details on the timeline have not been released. Aviation24news will continue to follow the programme as more information becomes available.
