Madagascar Airlines has announced that it will officially return to the Air Madagascar name, restoring the historic identity of the country’s national airline after more than two years of operating under its current brand. The change is set for October 31, 2026.
The decision marks the latest chapter for the carrier, which rebranded from Air Madagascar to Madagascar Airlines in 2023 following the integration of domestic airline Tsaradia into a single national operator.
A Historic Name Returns
Founded in 1962, Air Madagascar served as the island nation’s flag carrier for decades and became one of the most recognisable airline brands in the Indian Ocean. The 2023 rebrand aimed to unify the airline’s domestic and international operations under one name.
The airline has now confirmed that the Air Madagascar brand will return, with the transition taking place across its aircraft, branding and customer-facing services.
Why the Change?
According to the airline, the decision reflects the strength and recognition of the Air Madagascar name among both domestic and international travellers. The historic brand is expected to become the airline’s primary identity once again.
No changes have been announced to the airline’s route network or day-to-day operations as a result of the name change.
The return of Air Madagascar brings one of Africa’s longest-standing airline names back to the skies, ending a short-lived period under the Madagascar Airlines identity.
