Ryanair to End Bremen Flights From April 2027

Ryanair has reportedly confirmed it will withdraw from Bremen Airport from April 2027 following negotiations over commercial terms. The move would remove services carrying around 400,000 passengers annually, just as Lufthansa prepares to restore its Frankfurt connection.

Ryanair will end all flights to and from Bremen from April 2027, according to a report by German regional broadcaster buten un binnen. The airline has reportedly informed Bremen’s economic affairs authority of its decision in writing, following negotiations over its future operations at the airport.

The withdrawal would remove an airline carrying around 400,000 passengers annually through Bremen. According to the broadcaster, Ryanair’s flights from the airport achieved an average load factor of approximately 88% in 2025.

Withdrawal follows negotiations

Talks over new commercial terms had been underway since September. Buten un binnen reported that Ryanair sought additional concessions which would have cost the airport company around €4 million annually. Those reported demands have not been independently confirmed by Aviation24news.

The development follows the disappearance of Bremen flights from Ryanair’s booking system for summer 2027.

The airline’s published fare pages currently show availability through March on routes including London Stansted, Alicante, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca, followed by no fares from April onwards. This places the booking cutoff after the forthcoming winter season, rather than indicating an immediate suspension of services.

For travellers planning next summer, the change removes Ryanair options that would otherwise form part of the airport’s leisure and international network.

Lufthansa prepares to return

The news comes shortly after Bremen secured the return of Lufthansa’s Frankfurt connection.

According to NDR, Lufthansa plans to restore one daily service in 2027, having discontinued the route in July. Its return followed lengthy discussions about operating costs at Bremen, highlighting the importance of commercial terms in retaining airline services.

While the Frankfurt route provides access to Lufthansa’s connecting network, it serves a different purpose from Ryanair’s direct services to holiday destinations and cities elsewhere in Europe.

Contrast with winter expansion

Ryanair’s reported departure also contrasts with a new Bremen route scheduled to begin later this month.

Bremen Airport has announced twice-weekly flights to Lamezia Terme in southern Italy from 25 October 2026, operating on Fridays and Sundays. The airport presented the service as the return of a direct Italian connection after a six-year gap, serving both holidaymakers and passengers visiting family.

Wider German retrenchment

The Bremen development comes against a broader backdrop of Ryanair challenging costs in Germany.

In April, the airline announced plans to close its seven-aircraft Berlin base on 24 October 2026 and reduce its winter flying there by 50%. Ryanair attributed that decision to airport charges and Germany’s wider aviation cost environment.

Under that announced plan, Berlin would retain Ryanair services operated by aircraft based elsewhere. The reported Bremen decision goes further, removing all of the carrier’s flights from the airport from the following summer.
