Air Mauritius ranks 52nd in Skytrax’s 2026 global airline rankings.
The information was announced by the national carrier in a statement published this Sunday, September 20, 2026.
The airline ranked 63rd in 2025. It has therefore climbed eleven places in one year. According to Air Mauritius, this is its highest ranking since it first participated in the World Airline Awards. Its 52nd-place ranking is confirmed in Skytrax’s official 2026 rankings.
Air Mauritius also ranked second in the category for Best Airline Staff in Africa. It came behind EgyptAir and ahead of Ethiopian Airlines, according to Skytrax’s regional rankings.
A ranking based on passengers’ opinions
The 2026 World Airline Awards were announced on Friday, September 18, during a ceremony held at The Langham Hotel in London.
The ranking is based on an international passenger satisfaction survey conducted between September 2025 and August 2026. More than 300 airlines were evaluated. Travellers were asked to rate different aspects of their experience, both at the airport and on board. Skytrax states that it fully funds the survey and does not charge participating airlines any registration fees. The ranking therefore concerns passenger satisfaction, rather than airline safety or the financial position of carriers. Skytrax provides details of the methodology.
In its statement, Air Mauritius attributes its progress to its “Building Remarkable Service Quality” strategy, which aims in particular to improve the passenger experience.
The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, André Viljoen, says that feedback from customers and staff was taken into consideration as part of this initiative.
The carrier places this result in the context of its recovery plan, following what it describes as a “long and difficult period”. It now aims to secure a place among the world’s top 20 airlines, although it has not given a specific timeframe. Improvements are planned on board, on the ground, in airport lounges and in sales offices during 2026 and 2027.
A four-star certification separate from the ranking
Air Mauritius also remains certified as a “4-Star Airline” by Skytrax, a status it says it has held since 2014. This certification is separate from the World Airline Awards: it is based on a professional assessment of the quality of products and services offered on board and at airports. Skytrax currently confirms this four-star certification.
The global Top 10 in 2026
Singapore Airlines tops the ranking, followed by Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific Airways.
