As first reported by Ishrion Aviation, Haiti’s only airline, Sunrise Airways (S6), is planning to add Fort Myers (RSW) and West Palm Beach (PBI) to its route map.
Both routes will operate once weekly from Cap-Haïtien (CAP) using leased Airbus A320 aircraft operated by GlobalX. Following the recent launch of flights to Newark (EWR), the airline’s U.S. network is expected to grow to five destinations, with Boston (BOS) also reportedly in the works.
About the Airline
Haiti’s aviation industry has seen many airlines come and go, with most operating domestic services before eventually collapsing. Since launching in 2012, Sunrise Airways has steadily grown into the country’s largest carrier and, for many years, operated Haiti’s only scheduled passenger flights to the United States through Miami (MIA).
In 2015, the airline became Haiti’s only scheduled airline after rival Tortug’ Air ceased operations. Today, Sunrise serves 19 destinations across 10 countries, making it the country’s leading commercial airline.
GlobalX Enters the Picture
Global Crossing Airlines (G6), better known as GlobalX, began operations in 2021 and has become a key partner in Sunrise’s North American expansion.
The airlines reached an agreement to lease two Airbus A320s, N628VA and N291GX, allowing Sunrise Airways to operate routes to both the United States and Canada.
Why Cap-Haïtien?
Although Port-au-Prince is Haiti’s largest city, scheduled passenger flights have largely shifted to Cap-Haïtien due to ongoing security concerns.
After a security incident in late 2025, Sunrise suspended passenger operations to the capital and relocated its services to Cap-Haïtien. The FAA also continues to restrict U.S. flights to Port-au-Prince, making Cap-Haïtien the country’s primary gateway for international travel.
The Significance
These planned Florida routes continue Sunrise Airways’ strategy of connecting Haiti with its largest diaspora communities abroad. While Miami and Fort Lauderdale remain key markets, Fort Myers and West Palm Beach offer travellers in southern Florida more convenient access to Haiti.
The expansion also reflects the airline’s steady growth, following recent additions such as Santo Domingo (JBQ) and Punta Cana (PUJ), as well as planned services to Montréal (YUL). For a relatively young airline, Sunrise Airways continues to strengthen its international network.
