A single-engine aircraft was involved in an accident at Springfield–Beckley Municipal Airport in Springfield, Ohio, on Monday evening. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the aircraft made a hard landing after what investigators believe may have been a mechanical malfunction.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, and the runway was temporarily closed while first responders secured the area and removed the aircraft. Fortunately, authorities reported no injuries. The airport resumed normal operations after the runway was cleared.
The aircraft was en route from Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport to Springfield–Beckley Municipal Airport. During the landing, the landing gear may have experienced a mechanical failure, and the nose of the aircraft made contact with the runway, causing it to come to a stop off the side of the runway. Authorities have confirmed that the pilot of the 1979 Piper Saratoga SP and his passenger were not harmed in the accident.
Investigators will examine the aircraft’s maintenance records, weather conditions, pilot experience, and any available flight data to determine the exact cause of the accident. A preliminary report may be released in the near future, while a final investigation could take several months to complete.
