A Sepehran Airlines Boeing 737 made an emergency return to Mashhad after parts of the cabin ceiling came loose mid-flight. No injuries were reported.
Footage released by passengers on Sepehran Airlines portrays terrifying moments as a Boeing 737 incurred a malfunction, leading to the ceiling of the cabin to collapse onto passengers. Passengers were screaming in panic as they redirected for landing.
The aircraft was flying from Mashhad Nejad International Airport (MHD) to Kermanshah International Airport (KSH) in Iran when a mechanical failure occurred on 15th of September 2026. The Aircraft had to make an emergency landing back in Mashhad as a tyre of its landing gear reportedly burst. Passengers could be heard screaming and shouting as ceiling panels fell onto those seated below, leaving parts of the aircraft’s internal structure exposed.
No injured passengers have been reported on the flight; the cabin crew and the passengers were safely evacuated after making a full-stop landing. The Indian Express reported that the tyre burst is believed to have occurred on departure; this is yet to be confirmed. Mashhad’s airport runway was closed down for an assessment, later reopening for access.
It is not the first time that an Iranian Aircraft has been involved in an incident.
On August 25, a Boeing 737-500 from the Sepehran Airline, on a flight from Tehran to Mashhad, with 127 people on board, had veered off the runway upon landing, leading to its nose landing gear collapsing. According to The Indian Express, no injuries were reported. Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation has opened an investigation.
