A Learjet 60 has crashed in a residential neighbourhood in Florida, leaving a significant emergency response underway after the aircraft came down near a busy roadway in Palm Beach County on Sunday, 1 November.
The aircraft, registered N722BD, was carrying nine people when it crashed in Greenacres, near West Palm Beach, shortly before 13:00 local time. It had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, according to preliminary information released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear, although flight-tracking data from trusted service Flightradar24 indicate that the aircraft experienced a particularly rapid descent shortly before disappearing from tracking services.
The Aircraft’s Final Moments
Data from Flightradar24 show that N722BD had been operating at cruising altitude before its flight path changed considerably over Florida.
The aircraft was recorded at approximately 35,250 feet before beginning a rapid descent. Within the following minute, its recorded altitude had fallen to 8,750 feet, with a groundspeed of 231 knots when the final position shown in the supplied tracking data was recorded.

The aircraft’s track shows a considerable change in direction over the Palm Beach area.
The cause of descent has not been established. There has been no confirmed indication of a technical malfunction, an onboard emergency or any other factor that may have contributed to the accident.
Footage recorded by motorists shows the aircraft descending towards the ground before a large fire erupted at the impact site.
Crash Site Prompts Major Emergency Response
The Learjet came down near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, in a residential area of Greenacres, Florida.
The impact caused substantial damage, with a large crater visible at the scene and debris scattered across the surrounding area. At least one nearby mobile home appeared to have sustained significant damage in footage from the crash site.
Palm Beach County emergency services responded to the incident, while the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed both directions of Military Trail between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North.
The presence of residential properties close to the impact site has raised questions about casualties on the ground, at the time of initial reporting, authorities had not confirmed the number of fatalities or injuries, either among those aboard the aircraft or on the ground.
FAA and NTSB to Lead Investigation
The FAA confirmed that nine people were aboard the aircraft and that it would investigate the accident alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which will lead the investigation.
No official cause has been established, and further information concerning the occupants and the extent of the damage is expected as authorities continue their work.
This is a developing story.
